Geschichten von überall — Matildas Monster

Short film in the KiKA series Geschichten von überall, made for KiKA, Saarländischer Rundfunk and Das Erste.

At its centre is Matilda, who moves to a new city with her mother and feels lost and out of place. Between school, loneliness and the search for connection, she one day meets a mysterious creature in the forest — large, quiet and unexpectedly gentle. From that encounter grows a friendship that helps her find courage and see her new world with different eyes.

The film combines classic children’s-film elements with a calm, almost fairytale-like visual register. Forests, clearings and the summer edges of Saarbrücken are used less as scenery than as emotional spaces between reality and imagination.

Trivia: in one scene Max Tsui’s daughter Lynn Mei-Ling Tsui doubled for the young lead.
