Whispers of Wisdom
Documentary series · 10 parts
Ten cinematic portraits of scholars whose work, more than a thousand years ago, took shape on the territory of present-day Uzbekistan. Narrated by Sir Ben Kingsley.
Ten cinematic portraits of scholars, thinkers and rulers whose ideas, more than a thousand years ago, took shape on the territory of present-day Uzbekistan — and still resonate today.
The series moves between science, philosophy, astronomy, medicine and poetry, telling of figures whose insights helped shape the foundation of modern science and culture. At its centre stand, among others, al-Khwarizmi, whose work gave algebra its name; the astronomer al-Farghani; the polymath Ibn Sina (Avicenna); the naturalist al-Biruni; the astronomer-king Ulugh Beg; the poet and statesman Ali-Shir Nava’i; and Amir Temur.
Visually, the series connects historic sites of Central Asia with a modern, atmospheric visual language — between desert light, monumental architecture, nocturnal observatories and quiet rooms of knowledge. The aim was not to tell history museum-style, but to make the intellectual power of these figures emotionally tangible.
Narrated by Sir Ben Kingsley. Made for the Centre for Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan, scheduled to open in Tashkent in 2026.
The production was a finalist at the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards 2026; excerpts of the films were broadcast on Euronews, CNN International and BBC World News, among others.
